Nail the first boards on top of your wall where you plan to build your roof. Set a ladder at the outside of both corners of the end wall. 4 the roof framing consists of seven trusses spaced 24 inches on center with each one composed of an 8 foot long ceiling joist and two 50 inch long rafters that meet a 21 inch long truss support. Carry a gable end in and set it on the top plate upside down and backwards near the end wall.

The members are held together with a 5 8 inch plywood gusset. When you nail in the second boards offset the seams of the upper and lower layers by at least 24 in 61 cm. Truss detail of shed. Unless of course you have a very steep pitch on your trusses or rafters.

A simple gable shed roof is often built using 2 4 or 2 6 lumber for the rafters and 2 4 for the collar ties. Gable shed roof trusses in place with ceiling joists installed trusses are attached to the top plate by using 3 16d common nails toe nailed from the truss end into the top plate 2 on one side and one on the other. Your local building codes may also require the use of hurricane ties for each truss member where it rests on the top plate. Use 8 penny nails to attach the first 2 in 4 in 5 1 cm 10 2 cm board to the wall studs.

Nail 2 boards onto your walls as top plates. Much depends on the structure size and the desired attic loft or headroom. Raise it up horizontally and hold it in place with a 2 4 resting on the floor in the center of the base piece and one at the top center of the truss.
