The adhesive is 1 2 wide and begins inset at 1 8 with an overall width of 1 7 8. Open the patio door so the sliding door is in front of the stationary section. Start removing the header screws from that end. Apply weather strips to the inside and outside of the door jamb where the door slides to latch.

Another good window treatment is the clear plastic window film that mounts to the frame of the window. When you are using a patio pet door insert the sliding door does not seal with the fixed panel. The draft sealer is a 3 wide 1 16 thick heavy duty rubber weather seal that has a peel back self adhesive strip. Then remove the entire header strip. Apply pressure to the caulking gun trigger to apply an even bead of caulk down the edge of the frame. Seal the exterior of a sliding glass door to prevent drafts. Too large and you may have difficulty closing the door etc.

Basic weatherizing and some insulation will go a long way toward stopping drafty sliding doors. Unscrew and remove the header. If you feel a draft from your sliding glass door it means air is slipping through the cracks between the door and doorframe. And a combination of those two things might work. Use it to seal the gap between your sliding door and the fixed non sliding panel. Sealing the exterior of a sliding glass door only requires a few minutes of your time but it prevents excessive drafts from entering your home saving money on heating bills throughout the winter.
